This module shall help students develop a range of academic and communicative skills necessary for successful study at postgraduate level. Students will develop transferable communicative skills (written and oral), independent learning and responsibility for personal, academic and professional development are all focused on as well as the completion of the Swansea University Career Development Course.

This module provides students with a range of practical skills in the use of Microsoft Windows packages including PowerPoint, Excel and Word as a platform for further study. Emphasis is placed on using advanced feature within each package to increase productivity

Mass Communications
An introduction to concepts used in media discourse, the history of mass media and media literacy, discussions of the media and reality, this module provides students with knowledge of the fundamental aspects of mass communication. In doing so we strive to give you the required skills for further researching the media.

Globalisation
Our Globalisation module presents the fundamental aspects of Globalisation and the realities of today’s world. This module considers the economic, political, technological and social forces currently impacting on Globalisation through analysis of such phenomena as global imbalances, sustainable development, the use and ownership of knowledge, multi-national corporations and more.

Academic English Skills 1
Focusing on developing students’ ability in the academic writing, reading, listening and language skills required for study on academic programmes at Masters level this module will also develop students’ research and critical thinking skills, as well as their spoken English language ability, necessary for academic purposes. In doing so, this module aims to contribute to raising student awareness of necessary English language skills needed in an academic context in order to be able to cope with the demands of a postgraduate programme.

Academic Tutorial – Critical Thinking
The module provides students with a fundamental knowledge base and intellectual skills associated with thinking critically. Also covered is understanding the basic requirements for building and consolidating a reasoned argument, issues of neutrality and bias and an emphasis is placed on the issue of the credibility of ideas, texts and evidence.
