Maths for Nursing
This module focuses on developing the mathematical skills to support a Nursing and Healthcare Foundation pathway. Every day, nurses are required to make decisions and perform duties that affect the lives of their patients. These judgments often depend on mathematical knowledge. This course is designed to equip students with essential mathematical skills that are critical in the healthcare environment. This module provides students with an understanding of fundamental concepts and methods in research design. It builds on the semester one module ‘Living in the Social World’ by providing students the opportunity to apply what they have learnt through conducting independent research on a discipline-specific topic within Humanities, Social and Life Sciences.
Human Development and Wellbeing
Covering topics such as enzyme action, genetics, the cell cycle, health and disease, evolution and ecology amongst others, this module has been designed to be delivered in conjunction with the standard Stage 1 programmes in science.
English Skills Portfolio
On completion of the English Skills Portfolio Foundation Course, students should have reached a linguistic level appropriate for academic study on their chosen degree scheme at Swansea University. The aim of English Skills Portfolio is to enable students to develop their English language level within an academic context, and to equip students with the linguistic and academic skills necessary to perform confidently within their chosen discipline, whilst simultaneously encouraging them to become effective independent learners.
