As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the landscape of higher education, it is essential that teaching staff are equipped not only with an understanding of these transformative technologies but also with the confidence to integrate them meaningfully into their practice.
This section of the AI Framework is designed specifically for educators—providing practical guidance, ethical considerations, and pedagogical strategies to help you navigate and harness AI in your teaching.
Each competency can be expanded to access progression across three tiers, Baseline - Established - Innovative, along with useful resources from both the University and external organisations which support the development of skills, knowledge and experience within that competency.
Responsible and Ethical Use
This section provides guidance on ethical considerations, data privacy, transparency, and the importance of human oversight when using AI tools in teaching. It encourages critical reflection on how AI impacts student learning, assessment, and equity, and offers practical strategies to help you make informed, principled decisions in your use of AI.
By embedding responsibility into our approach, we can model best practices for students and contribute to a culture of integrity and innovation across the university.
Legal, Regulatory and Policy Awareness and Compliance
Baseline
Integrate university policies on data protection, privacy, and academic integrity into the selection and pedagogical use of approved AI tools, ensureing alignment with institutional standards in teaching and learning activities.

Participate in departmental or faculty initiatives to effect AI policy implementation and compliance and model compliance practices to colleagues and students.
