What is Step Up to Swansea University?

The Step Up to Swansea University programme is a series of day events and a short summer school at Swansea University aimed at A-Level and BTEC students in their first year of study. The programme aims to support students in making the transition to higher education. The programme includes information and guidance on all aspects of the application and university life, as well as subject taster days, and a summer school. Students who successfully complete the programme will be eligible for a tariff point reduction for Swansea University courses.

Who is it for?

The Step Up to Swansea University programme is a targeted programme for students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in higher education. This includes, but is not limited to; young carers, care experienced young people, and young people living in areas in the lower 40% of the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation

How to get involved?

The Step Up to Swansea University programme will open for applications in January. The Step Up team visit target schools and colleges in South West Wales to share information about the programme throughout January and February. Students must apply on an individual basis and the application form can be found on this page when applications are live. Selection for the programme takes place in February and students will be notified by early March.
