Swansea University has been awarded a Technician Commitment Impact Award to recognise the progress made against its self-assessment and action plan over the last three years.

The Technician Commitment is a university and research institution initiative, hosted by the UK Institute of Technical Skills and Strategy (UKITSS), which aims to ensure the visibility, recognition, career development and sustainability of technical careers.

On Swansea’s mission to foster the experience of technicians at the University, the Steering Board at UKITSS said: “It is positive to see that ‘technician voice’ has been at the heart of both the self-assessment process and the development of the new action plan, and that a range of views have been sought. Overall, this is a suitably ambitious action plan with the potential to make a real difference to the technical community.”

Ruth Bunting, Chair of Swansea University’s Technician Commitment Steering Group said: “This award is a direct result of the hard work of those groups at the University entirely dedicated to building a vibrant and supportive environment where all technicians can thrive.  We will continue to align our plans with the changing needs of our diverse technical community.’

The ‘Award for Impact’ is due to be presented to representatives of Swansea University’s technician community at the next Technician Commitment signatory event in Belfast on 14 May.
