Biomedical Science is the scientific study of biological tissues related to the diagnosis and treatment of various conditions that affect people’s quality of life. It is a well-recognised and valued healthcare science profession that encompasses the application of scientific principles to support diagnosis, treatment and therapeutic drug monitoring across the entire life span.
The aim of the BSc in Biomedical Science is to equip students with key biomedical technical skills and fundamental scientific knowledge to produce graduates who are analytical, innovative, creative, safe, confident, and reflective scientists, who will be able to embrace change, develop leadership skills, and become consumers and users of research evidence.
The Institute of Biomedical Science’s (IBMS) long-term workforce plan has identified a strong and growing need for qualified professionals in this field, promising strong employment prospects for graduates.
Please note this BSc course does not have IBMS Accreditation.

The BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science (with placement) course option will include a year in industry option, with an opportunity to apply for a year-long placement within an IBMS Accredited Training Laboratory. Students will also have the option to access an industrial placement year to gain experience in a non-NHS setting or have a study abroad placement year.
