Course Overview

If you are interested in building a rewarding career in the field of health and social care, but do not meet the entry requirements to study our 3-year BSc programme, or are a mature student returning to education, we are pleased to offer our BSc Health and Social Care with a Foundation Year course.

The first year of our 4-year course is a foundation year where you will be introduced to the foundations of health and social care and cover key topics that form the basis of the field, including public health, policy, law and ethics, justice and equality.

You will build your knowledge and academic skills, and, with successful completion of the course (where you will be required to achieve at least 40% overall), will progress on to year 1 of the 3-year BSc programme.

The foundation year (level 3) will be delivered by The College, Swansea University (TCSU). Years 2-4 (levels 4-6) will be delivered by the School of Health and Social Care.

Why Health and Social Care with a Foundation Year at Swansea?

As a student at Wales’s largest provider of healthcare education, you will be immersed in a dynamic research and learning environment with many opportunities to build links with students from related disciplines.

This is part of our collaborative approach to health and social care, aimed at improving integration between the sectors and preparing you for a career working across traditional organisational and professional boundaries.

Your Health and Social Care with a Foundation Year Experience

When studying BSc Health and Social Care with a Foundation Year, your first year will be spent building foundational knowledge, skills and experience.

On successful completion of the Foundation Year, you can then choose to study Health and Social Care as either a 3-year BSc or a 4-year BSc with Applied Practice.

As part of the 3 year BSc in Health and Social Care, you will undertake modules in professional development and have the option to complete a work placement as part of your degree alongside your academic work.

The 4-year BSc Health and Social Care with Applied Practice offers an additional year in industry to the 3-year Health and Social Care degree. This additional year will give students the opportunity to experience work in the Health and Social Care services environment, allowing students to build their confidence and gain real-world experience.
