Course Overview

This advanced four-year initial degree in Osteopathy will give you the knowledge, skills, and experience you need to become a registered osteopath, qualified to diagnose and treat a wide range of health issues through manual therapy, tailored exercises, rehabilitation, and advice. 

You will gain a thorough understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathology and the psychology of pain, together with excellent clinical examination techniques, combining in-depth academic work with extensive practical clinical skills.

The state-of-the-art facilities in the School of Health and Social Care include a multi-disciplinary osteopathic clinic at the award-winning Health and Wellbeing Academy staffed by associate staff members who are qualified, practising osteopaths. This gives you a safe, supervised environment to build your skills and confidence as you put your theoretical knowledge into practice.

We have a unique agreement with Swansea Bay University Health Board that gives you the opportunity to work in an integrated NHS setting off-campus in your final year.

You will also study modules on business development if you are planning to set up your own practice.

Your Osteopathy experience

You will start weekly clinical placements in your second year, beginning with observational visits and building to autonomous practice in your final year. 

Being based in the School of Health and Social Care, Wales’s largest provider of healthcare education, you will be immersed in a dynamic research and learning environment.

Osteopathy Careers

Your salary is determined by the number of patients you see, and whether you set up your own practice or join an already established practice as an associate partner, but you can expect an average starting salary of around £28,407.

 

Modules

This is a tightly structured Masters programme in which all modules are compulsory. Over the four years, you will follow progressive modules in anatomy and physiology, osteopathic skills, pathophysiology and therapeutics, building to a dissertation in your final year.
