Course Overview

This programme will be awarded by Swansea University and delivered by Coleg Cambria at its new Business Management Centre at Northop.

You will graduate from this programme with a strong grounding in both the practical and theoretical aspects of contemporary business management. This includes an in-depth understanding and appreciation of issues relevant to businesses in which you will be employed during your study.

The Applied Business Management programme will equip you with the skills and tools needed to play a valuable part in delivering a sustainable, inclusive and innovative future economy. Residential accommodation is not available. Blended flexible learning 26 days per academic year afternoon and evening (26-half days out of the workplace).

Why Applied Business Management?

The School of Management is accredited by AACSB International, the world’s largest business education association, connecting business schools, businesses and learners, to create the next generation of great leaders.

In choosing the Applied Business Management degree you will study a broad spectrum of business and management topics (such as marketing, operations management, finance, accounting, strategy and human resource management).

All modules are taught by our leading business tutors who have a breadth of industrial and academic knowledge and regularly train business leaders from across Wales. Cambria has outstanding connections with many businesses and business leaders throughout North Wales, with guest business speakers, presentations and opportunities to network. We are an experienced provider of apprenticeship routes, including for business management. You will study in our brand new HE Business Management Centre.

This programme is designed for the student who wants to excel and reach the top level of global business management practice.

Your Applied Business Management Experience

This course is designed to allow you to study and work at the same time. It is aimed at anyone who wants to develop their business and management skills in a vocational context. It will give you the skills needed for a successful career in business and/or management.

You will study 4 modules in year 1 (Finance, Accounting & Analytics, Marketing, Human Resource Management and Operations Management 1), and a further 4 in year 2 (Business Management 1, Operations Management 2, Organisational project 1 and Leadership & International Human Resource Management). Prince2 Foundation is also offered as an optional extra on year 2; this project management qualification is a valuable asset to employers.

Successful completion of all modules in Years 1 and 2 will enable students to achieve a Foundation Degree (the FdSc in Applied Business Management). Completion of the FdSc will allow progression onto the BSc Applied Business Management in Year 3 where you will study 3 modules (Business Management 2, Leadership and Organisational Project 2).

The modules have been designed to focus on Learning Outcomes – two of which will be personally and professionally developed between the student, personal tutor and employer mentor. These outcomes will form part of a learning contract and provide the basis for coursework and assessment, for example, a portfolio of evidence and written report.

Employment Opportunities

Students with a Business Management degree are very employable as they have the full range of business skills needed. Opportunities for careers include accountancy, marketing, human resources, logistics, business development and sales.

For example, you will be able to show a comprehensive understanding of major business theories; respond critically to contemporary arguments; evaluate the aims and impact of social and economic policies.

Due to the innovative nature of this course, you will be able to simultaneously learn and practice your skills in your workplace, with mentors to guide you throughout your studies.
