As we usher in 2025, the NP BioHUB team extends warm wishes for a joyful and fulfilling year ahead. May this new year bring you all that you hope for. We look forward to connecting with more of you throughout 2025!

Take a look at some of our highlights from this year...

BioHUB Expansion

UKRI Bid

The NP BioHUB reached a major milestone by securing funding from UKRI to create a new Interdisciplinary Natural Products BioHUB Centre. The centre will significantly boost the local green economy, promoting sustainable practices and innovation in natural products across agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing—making it Wales' first of its kind among five centres funded through UKRI’s £25 million investment in green initiatives.

Directory Of Expertise

We’ve launched a directory to showcase the expertise at our University and among our centre supporters. This resource offers businesses insights into various sectors, by connecting them with experts from both the university and those affiliated with NP BioHUB. Expanding The Team

In the coming weeks, we will be posting various job openings, including a contracts officer (currently available) and research assistant roles. Be sure to check out our vacancies here, as many positions are set to close in early January!

New Office Space

The NP BioHUB team has recently moved into a new office in the Margam building at Swansea University's Singleton Campus, following our UKRI grant award in October. To connect with the team and discover collaboration opportunities, feel free to email us or visit our office.

2024 Events

New IPM 2024

In September we hosted the third annual New IPM Conference, bringing together over 200 academics, industry leaders and government officials for three days of innovation and collaboration. It was great to see so many people engaged in pest management solutions and we would like to thank our sponsors, speakers and exhibitors for contributing their knowledge and expertise to the event.

GEC & S4W

In May, we hosted two consecutive events focused on sensor technologies and green economy innovations. Participants explored cutting-edge advancements in sensor technology that are transforming environmental and health monitoring while connecting with key stakeholders and innovators to exchange knowledge and foster relationships for potential future collaborations.

Climate Change

In November, the Natural Products BioHUB hosted an event in partnership with Wales Climate Week 2024 to explore climate change's effects on our local community. Participants shared diverse perspectives and innovative solutions, showcasing a rich tapestry of ideas aimed at addressing this global challenge.

Green Economy Conference

The NP BioHUB proudly collaborated with 4theRegion at this year’s Green Economy Conference held at Swansea Arena. Our Project Lead, Professor Dan Eastwood, showcased our new green economy centre, while key member Dr Alla Silkina highlighted circular economy innovations within the BioHUB.

Swansea Science Festival

The NP BioHUB proudly participated in this year's science festival, attracting over 4,500 attendees and showcasing the fascinating world of fungi and algae to Swansea locals. Visitors enjoyed hands-on experiences with bubbling algae and discovered how these microorganisms contribute to everyday products like seaweed snacks, haircare items, and even Lego.
