How to Apply for Accommodation - Swansea University

We do not ask for a £100 deposit for returning students and will only accept returning students who have paid their previous accommodation fees in full.

When signing your accommodation contract you agree to pay for the full year fees. If you decide to move out of accommodation but are still enrolled onto your course, you will still be liable to pay for the full accommodation fees. 

For many reasons this can happen, please note there will be a room move charge that will be payable immediately.

It is your responsibility to inform us that your accommodation fees are being paid by a third party. We will then ask for further information regarding your sponsorship. 

Try not to worry as it is not uncommon, many students through clearing or other avenues still wait for maintenance loans to be approved whilst starting university. The first payment date is towards the end of October, and this should be finalised by this point. We may ask for proof of the loan application. Please note, it is still the student’s responsibility to ensure the fees are paid regardless of whether the loan is accepted or not.

Most students will pay for their accommodation costs by using their maintenance loan from the Student Loan Company (SLC). It is the student’s responsibility to ensure the fees are paid on time, and to inform us if there is a delay with SLC funding arriving to them. All payment due dates are in line with when students receive their SLC funding. 

It’s important you pay your rent on time to avoid your account going into arrears. The payment dates and amounts can be found in your Tenancy Agreement.

Whilst we offer what we believe to be a fair system for paying fees in instalments we do expect payments to be made on the nominated due dates. If you find yourself in financial difficulties you are strongly advised to contact the Money Advice team within the Student Services Department who may be able to help, as they can offer a wide range of grants towards accommodation subject to eligibility.

If you have withdrawn from studies and no longer require accommodation you will need to complete a release from tenancy form.

Once the form has been completed and finalised by the accommodation team you will be liable for accommodation fees 6 weeks after this date. This is to ensure enough time for packing, paying and finalising any paperwork.

You can make monthly payments towards your accommodation fee, as long as the payment is made in full by the instalment date.

Yes. Our secure online payment facility is available to all students and is available 24/7. It can be accessed via the Swansea University Intranet. This system allows you to pay in full with a credit/debit card. 

We do not accept American Express, Diners Club and Nat West Bank Solo debit cards. Students who enrol online will be able to make payment by credit/debit card. 

Swansea University is operating as a cashless Campus, cash will not be accepted as payment of accommodation fees. 

If you wish to pay by cheque please make out your cheque to Swansea University, and write your student reference number on the back. Cheques should be sent to Swansea University, Finance Department, Singleton Park, Swansea. SA2 8PP. 

On completion of studies/withdrawal/suspension, the university may disclose adequate, relevant and sufficient personal data to a third party (nominated Debt Collection Company), to enable the debt to the university to be pursued and recovered.
