About The Role

Swansea University aspires to create a sector leading multi-sport environment through its Swansea Bay Sports Park and Bay Campus facilities, delivering to high performance and elite athletes, staff and students of the University, and the local and national community. Reporting to the Duty Management & Senior Sports Assistant teams, the successful applicants will be responsible for delivering day to day operations at the Sports Centre & Pavilion facilities at SBSP, and the Gym, Sports Hall & MUGAs at Bay Campus, ensuring that the highest standards of customer care, health and safety, facility presentation and service delivery are achieved. This Sports Assistant role is an excellent opportunity for those looking for a career in a sport centre or gym environment, whether new to the industry or to those with previous experience. The duties are carried out between our two facilities at Sketty Lane and Bay Campus. The role offers the chance to work with members from both participation to performance levels, from both community and student backgrounds. Please refer to the job description for further detail.

Welsh Language Skills

The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.

Essential Criteria:

  1. Values aligned with those set out by the University.
  2. Sound basic education to school leaving age.
  3. Minimum Level 2 Gym Instructor Qualification.

Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Health and Safety practices relating to a sports environment.
  2. Good Communication Skills – Written / Oral.
  3. Ability to work as part of small team as well as individually.
  4. Computer literate.
  5. Ability to work under pressure.

Desirable Criteria:

  1. Ability to communicate in Welsh.
  2. Previous experience in a sports facility.
  3. Point of Sale and cash handling experience.
  4. Setting up and taking down of sports equipment.
  5. Sports related HND or similar.
  6. First Aid Qualification.
  7. A general interest in sport development.
  8. Class Fitness Instructor Qualifications.
