It’s not only large city law firms who see the advantage of sponsoring prizes in the LLM provided by Swansea University’s Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law.
In 2019 rising niche firm Hannaford Turner LLP, a newer and much smaller practice specialising in ships, assets and commodities, introduced a prize for the best performing student in Swansea’s LLM on Ship and Other Mobile Assets Finance. The prize is highly coveted, since apart from its monetary value it includes an internship at the firm itself.
This year’s winner was Raghav Sharma. Raghav, who originally hails from India, already has an MSc from Erasmus University in Rotterdam in Maritime Economics and Logistics, and is currently completing his Swansea LLM in International Maritime Law.
The Prize was presented in London by Matt Hannaford, one of the founding partners of the firm, and associate Rasha Jassim.
The Institute’s Director, Professor Soyer, who was also present at the ceremony, said afterwards:
“We in the Institute are immensely grateful to Hannaford Turner. This is a great law firm specialising in the field of ship and asset finance, and is also dynamic and forward-looking in its determination to invest in the people who will be the future of maritime law and practice. We congratulate Raghav and wish him all the very best in his internship and beyond.”
