Dr Brian Leung talking on “tacking the Dark side of AI: The Deep Fakes”.

As 2024/2025 academic year draws to a close, we are proud to reflect on a truly enriching academic year at Swansea University for students enrolled in our LLM in Intellectual Property and Innovation and LLM in Legal Tech and Commercial Law.

Apart from introducing two Prizes for our students, one sponsored by Stobbs IP (a global law firm with offices in London, Cambridge, Munich, Dublin, and Eindhoven) and one sponsored by Kenendys IQ, we had the privilege of hosting a series of guest seminars delivered by leading professionals from the legal, AI and creative industries. Their insights and expertise brought real-world depth to our academic programmes, and we are incredibly grateful for their contributions.

During the year, our students attended guest lectures and talks from the following:

Andrea Buticchi, Partner at CBM & Partners – “Photography in the Italian Copyright System”
Mr Joe Cunningham, ACII from Kennedys IQ on “Current Adoption of AI Technology in Commercial Context”.
Anna Gnap, Senior Rights & Business Affairs Executive at 560 Media Rights Ltd – “Copyright Management in the Creative Industries”
Brian Leung, "Tackling the Dark Side of AI: Deepfakes and Image-Based Rights"
Aaron Trebble, Legal Director at Lewis Silkin – “IP Protection for Video Game Mechanics”
Bernard Twomey, University of York, “Autonomous Shipping- Legal and Technical Challenges”

We are confident that these initiatives will enable our students to bridge the gap between academia and industry as well as assist them in establishing links with key individuals in the sector. We are grateful to our colleagues who facilitated these exchanges and worked hard to ensure that our LLMs are fully integrated with the general ethos of our LLM programmes, namely equipping our students with adequate skills to succeed in the job market.
