The Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law (IISTL), in collaboration with the Centre for Commercial Law and Financial Regulation at the University of Reading, proudly hosted the Biennial Modern Studies in Commercial Law Conference at Swansea University on 24–25 September.

Building on the success of the inaugural event in Reading in 2023, this year’s conference brought together leading academics and researchers from across the globe to explore three key themes shaping the future of commercial law: i) protection of vulnerable parties; ii) sustainability and environmental challenges; and iii) contemporary issues in trade, finance, and the role of technology.

Reflecting on the success of the event, Professor Soyer, Director of the IISTL, said:

“This conference provided an exceptional opportunity for leading scholars in commercial law to share their research, exchange ideas, and receive valuable feedback from their peers. Based on the outstanding quality of the presentations, we are excited to bring these papers together in a forthcoming publication. We are deeply grateful to all participants, as well as to Professor James Devenney and Dr Andrea Miglionico, whose efforts were instrumental in making this event a success. We now look forward to continuing this tradition when we meet again in Reading in 2027.”
