The Honourable Justice Aishatu Auta Ibrahim of Borno State, Nigeria, was recently sworn in as a Judge of the Federal High Court.
Judge Ibrahim is an Alumna of the School of Law at Swansea University, having graduated in 2010. She undertook the LLM in International Commercial and Maritime Law; a one-year master’s programme that looks to develop knowledge and skills in key areas that are highly valued by employers.
She was sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, as part of a ceremony that introduced 23 new Judges of the Federal High Court.
This is the latest development in her successful legal career, which saw her admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 2008 as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
She later started legal practice in 2008 with the law firm of Paul Usoro & Co., Lagos, working as a Junior Counsel before taking a career break to complete her LLM at Swansea.
On completion of her master’s, she joined the law firm Foundation Chambers and undertakes various Maritime, Commercial, Litigation and Corporate law assignments, while participating in several seminars and offering training for others working in the field.
She is currently a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, International Bar Association, Nigerian Maritime Law Association, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK and Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria.
Speaking of her latest appointment, Judge Ibrahim had the following to say:

I appreciate the recognition and honour given to me.”
