LLM Students

Our LLM students with London P&I representatives and Annie Stow representing the International Group Secretariat

Swansea University’s School of Law has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the employability of its postgraduate students with the launch of its first LLM education trip of the academic year to London earlier this month. The initiative supports one of the programme’s core aims: connecting students directly with leading professionals and organisations shaping the legal and maritime sectors.

Led by academic staff, a group of 45 LLM students visited the London P&I Club—an event made possible through the International Group (IG). The visit offered students an invaluable, first-hand view of the daily operations of Protection & Indemnity Clubs, as well as insight into some of the most pressing issues currently influencing the industry. Students also had the opportunity to network with senior practitioners and engage in meaningful conversations about career pathways and industry direction.

The day concluded with a guided tour of London’s commercial and legal landmarks, enriching students’ understanding of the broader professional landscape in which maritime and commercial law operate.

Reflecting on the success of the visit, Dr Tabetha Kurtz-Shefford expressed gratitude to Annie Stow and the London P&I Club for welcoming Swansea students, noting that the School remains strongly committed to supporting postgraduate development. She also extended thanks to Morwenna Tyler for her key role in organising the trip. Dr Kurtz-Shefford confirmed that similar educational visits and industry engagement opportunities are already planned for the new year.
