Swansea University has developed a dedicated Value-Based Health and Care (VBHC) programme in conjunction with strategic partner, Sprink Ltd, as part of its Executive Education offer.
Designed for senior leaders within the life science, health and social care sectors, the inaugural programme will be delivered virtually to 50 global leaders from leading research-based pharmaceutical company, Pfizer, starting on September 16.
As health and care systems globally are increasingly challenged to create better outcomes for people at the lowest possible cost, this programme is designed to transform the way in which those systems currently operate.
Delivered by leaders from across healthcare systems, life science organisations, government and universities, the programme will use the latest findings from academic research to ensure a robust understanding of the successful adoption of VBHC.
CEO of Sprink and Interim Course Director, Dr Tom Kelley, said: “VBHC unites our health and care systems behind one goal – delivering the very best outcomes that matter to people at the lowest possible cost. This is what patients want. This is why we as professionals, work in healthcare. This is the only way that we can secure long-term, high quality health and care systems. Therefore, we all, from governments to providers to industry, need to now work together to implement VBHC in our health systems across the globe.
“I am also particularly excited to work with Swansea University as it is located in Wales. Wales has a global reputation for being at the forefront of VBHC adoption and therefore, it makes complete sense to develop and deliver first class VBHC education at one of Wales’ leading Universities.”
Hamish Laing, Professor of Enhanced Innovation, Engagement and Outcomes at Swansea University, said: “The fact that our first cohort of delegates comprises global leaders from one of the world’s biggest pharmaceutical companies, is testament that a Value-Based approach is now seen as essential to the sustainability of organisations operating within both the life science and health sectors.
“It is the future of how systems need to operate and it is imperative that Value-Based approaches are adopted within organisations as early as possible, to maximise the benefits for both the patient and the bottom line.”
Ben Osborn, Pfizer UK Country Manager, said: “Swansea University’s Value-Based Health and Care programme could not be more timely. It recognises how scientific breakthroughs, combined with strains on healthcare budgets and rising patient expectations is transforming how healthcare is delivered, measured and paid for.
“The pace of this shift can vary considerably, however. This VBHC programme will enable leaders from both industry and health systems to align on a shared view of value-based healthcare and make it a reality in the most efficient and effective way possible.”
The Value-Based Health and Care programme at Swansea University sits within the Executive Education offer within the School of Management. It is the first of many specialist, executive level programmes delivered by the School to establish sustainable, high performing organisations and economies across a number of sectors.
Commenting on the Executive Education offer at the School of Management, Co-Dean and Director of Learning and Teaching, Professor Katrina Pritchard, said: “In offering Executive Education to professional learners, we are excited to open our world-class academic research and resources to leaders across different sectors. I am proud that the first, intensive VBHC programme, is being delivered to leading global pharmaceutical organisation, Pfizer. Further demonstrating the appetite for continuous learning as the world adapts and economies shift, more so now than ever.
“Our high-quality, specialist courses are designed to support leaders to build sustainable, high performing organisations and economies. In addition to VBHC, we offer broader, leadership programmes such as an MBA and DBA amongst a whole host of other offers. The wealth of knowledge across industry and academia within the School, places us in the advantageous position of delivering outcome-focussed programmes, driven by application and supported by theory.”
The second VBHC virtual programme is now open to delegates from across the life science, health and social care sectors and takes place from March 3, 2021. Click HERE for more information and to register your place.
