Subjects across the academic spectrum at Swansea University have been ranked among the world’s best in a new league table.

The Global Rankings of Academic Subjects 2024 ranked 24 Swansea University subjects, up from 21 in 2023, with three subjects featured in the world’s top 100.

The results, compiled by Shanghai Rankings, assess 5,000 universities in 96 countries across 55 subjects, spanning Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences.

Business Administration was Swansea’s highest-ranked subject at 20th in the world, followed by Library & Information Science, ranked between 51-75, and Geography, ranked between 76-100.

Three additional subjects – Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, and Energy Science & Engineering – were ranked between 101-150 in the global table.

Launched in 2009, the GRAS rankings use a range of objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure the performance of universities worldwide in respective subjects. The criteria include research output, research influence, international collaboration, research quality, and international academic awards.
