Dr Victoria Silverwood of Criminology delivers ‘The Crisis of Concussion. How can Sport Respond’ talk at Hay Festival.
“I was really honoured to be invited to represent Swansea University at Hay Festival and to talk to such an engaging and interested audience about concussion in sport. My talk focussed on the importance of understanding sports-related head injuries from a cultural and social perspective based on my 16 years of academic research among athletes in contact sports. It is a little unusual that a criminologist would have an opinion on sports, but Swansea is the first UK university to offer a module in Critical Sports Criminology.”
This coincides with a new research group within the School of Social Sciences at Swansea University named ‘Swansea Centre of Research into Sports and Society (SCORSS)’ which takes a multi-disciplinary approach to considering the cultures of sport and leisure from a broad range of perspectives.
