Swansea University’s Emily Marchant, lecturer in Education has been awarded Welsh Marathon Champion of 2023 after completing the 2023 TCS London Marathon in just 2 hours, 47 minutes, and 9 seconds (2:47:09).
Emily is an elite athlete, regularly competing in a variety of large-scale sporting events from the London Marathon to triathlete events such as Ironman Wales. With this in mind, this wasn’t Emily’s first time taking on the London Marathon challenge, having competed last year finishing with a time of 2 hours, 50 minutes (2:50). This achievement meant that Emily qualified for the UK Marathon Championships comfortably beating the qualifying time of 3 hours, 14 minutes (3:14:00), permitting her entry into the elite category for 2023, where she went on to be the first Welsh female athlete crossing the finish line.
Regarding upcoming competitions, Emily is now preparing herself by focusing a lot of her spare time training for Ironman Wales which takes place in Tenby, Pembrokeshire every September.
