Why Swansea?
I chose Swansea University for my undergraduate studies (BSc in Biology) and enjoyed it so much that I decided to continue my education here with an MRes in Biosciences. Swansea consistently ranks high in league tables for student experience, which initially attracted me. Being close to the coast was also a big draw as someone from the Midlands. My favourite aspect of the Biosciences department is how approachable and friendly the lecturers are. After graduating, I hope to stay in Swansea, pursue a career in education, and pass on my love of biology.

Are you/have you been part of a society?
Yes, I joined the dance society at university, fulfilling a long-time desire to dance. The society is very welcoming, regardless of experience, and has been a fantastic way to stay active and make new friends. My favourite part has been the annual showcase at the Taliesin Theatre on campus, complete with costumes and lighting.

Have you lived in halls during your studies?
I lived in halls during my first year, which was a great way to meet new people and make friends. I ended up moving into a student house with three of my hallmates for the rest of my undergraduate degree, and we remain good friends.

Did you apply through Clearing?
On A-level results day, I didn’t get the grades needed for my first-choice university. I called various clearing helplines in a panic, worried I wouldn’t find a place. Swansea University was incredibly friendly and reassuring, offering me a place. I was so relieved and have stayed at the university for my postgraduate studies because I’ve enjoyed it so much.

Have you worked part-time during your degree?
I have worked with both the recruitment and outreach departments at the university. This has included working open days and school visits, which has been great as it’s flexible around my studies.

Have you accessed student support at Swansea University?
Yes, I have ASC, and the support services at the university have been excellent in providing provisions during exams and assignments. They also offer opportunities to socialise with other students with similar conditions, such as free walks with alpacas!

Have you graduated or are you a current student?
I am currently an MRes student and have also completed my BSc in Biology and Secondary PGCE in Biology at Swansea University.
