The School of Law hosted the Annual Hale Lecture 2024 of the Society of Legal Scholars
The lecture was delivered by Sir Peter Fraser, Chair of the Law Commission of England and Wales since December 2023. In an engaging, entertaining and informative lecture, Sir Peter talked about the work of the Law Commission since its inception and about the ongoing need for a rolling programme of law reform to ensure that the law keeps pace with societal and technological developments, as well as being accessible to all.
The lecture was part of a series named in honour of Baroness Hale of Richmond, who among other achievements is a former President of the Supreme Court and herself a former Law Commissioner. The organisers were delighted that Baroness Hale joined us on the night, alongside the High Sheriff of West Glamorgan and the immediate past President of the Society of Legal Scholars, Professor Paula Giliker.
Head of School, Professor Alison Perry said, ‘It was an honour to be asked to host this prestigious lecture. We were thrilled to welcome our speaker and guests to Swansea Law School and to be able to offer colleagues and students alike the opportunity to hear from a prominent member of the legal community. It was particularly pleasing to see so many of our students at the event. We are grateful to everyone involved in making the evening such a success.’
