Why did you choose to study your degree at Swansea?
As a commonwealth scholar, I had the opportunity to choose 3 universities. I chose Swansea for its strong reputation in public health, supportive environment for international students, and the beautiful, relaxing coastal setting. It’s a great place to study and live.
What is your favourite thing about your course?
My favourite thing about my course is how practical and relevant it is. I am gaining real-world knowledge and skills that directly apply to improving public health and making a difference in communities.
What are you planning to do after you graduate?
After I graduate, I plan to return home to Ghana to contribute to strengthening the public health systems. I’m especially passionate about health education and prevention, and I hope to use the knowledge and skills I've gained to make a meaningful impact in local communities.
Would you recommend Swansea University to other students? Why?
Yes, I would definitely recommend Swansea University. The academic support is excellent, especially for international students, and the learning environment is both friendly and inclusive. The location is also a bonus, with beautiful beaches and green spaces that make it a great place to live and study.
Do you participate in a Swansea University sports team, club and/or society?
Yes, I am involved with Discovery, the volunteer society on campus. It has been a rewarding experience that has allowed me to give back to the local community, develop new skills, and connect with people from diverse backgrounds. Volunteering through Discovery has really enriched my time at Swansea.
Have you lived in halls/student housing or at home during your studies?
I have lived in private accommodation near campus during my studies. It gave me more independence while still being close enough to easily access university facilities and connect with friends.
Have you accessed student support at Swansea University?
I’ve found the Centre of Academic Success really helpful during my studies. Their workshops and one-on-one support have improved my academic skills, like writing critically and research, which are crucial for my course. The centre also provides useful resources and guidance that make managing assignments and exams much easier.
If relevant, what facilities have you enjoyed using as part of your course and why?
I have really enjoyed using the library because it offers a quiet space with extensive resources that help me focus and study effectively. I also use the gym regularly—it’s a great way to stay healthy and relieve stress during busy study periods.
