Why did you choose to study your degree at Swansea?

I chose Swansea University because of its strong academic reputation in public health and its commitment to global health equity. The university's learning culture and international profile also attracted me. In addition to the excellent academic program, Swansea's beautiful coastal environment, with beaches and open spaces, provides a pleasant space to reflect and study. I really feel Swansea has a combination of academic excellence and quality life.

What is your favourite thing about your course?

My favourite aspect of the course is its practical and global approach to public health. I appreciate how the modules combine theory with real-world application. The course encourages critical thinking about health inequalities and gives me the tools to design interventions that are culturally and contextually relevant; skills that are directly applicable to my work in low-resource and conflict-affected settings. I also value the supportive academic environment and the opportunity to learn from peers with diverse international experiences.

What are you planning to do after you graduate?

After I graduate, I plan to return to the Democratic Republic of Congo to utilize the skills and knowledge I have developed to strengthen health systems in areas affected by conflict and poverty. I hope to focus on child health and nutrition, by working with both local and international organisations to develop evidence-based interventions.

Would you recommend Swansea University to other students? Why?

I would definitely recommend Swansea University to other students without hesitation. I was struck by both the amount of academic support available to students and their ability to apply the course content to real public health situation. The university has a welcoming international community which exposes you to new cultures and embraces diversity and collaboration.

Do you participate in a Swansea University sports team, club and/or society?

Yes, I am a member of the Christian Union at Swansea University, where I participate in various events, including trips and social gatherings. Additionally, I am involved in volunteerism, which has given me the opportunity to engage with the local community and contribute to meaningful causes outside of my academic studies. These experiences have allowed me to build connections, develop leadership skills, and make a positive impact.

Have you accessed student support at Swansea University?

Yes, particularly during a difficult period related to the situation in my home country. The university was incredibly supportive and provided me with the assistance I needed, helping me to navigate the challenges and continue my studies without feeling overwhelmed.

If relevant, what facilities have you enjoyed using as part of your course and why?

I enjoy using the library and the study spaces at the university as a part of my course. I find the library to be a great space to work in a quiet environment with great resources for research or study. The digital resources have also been very helpful for accessing academic journals and publications. I have also made use of the health service in the campus.
