Why did you choose to study your degree at Swansea?
Because it is among the top-ranked universities in the UK, offering a strong academic reputation. I was particularly impressed by the profiles and expertise of the lecturers for my course, which gave me confidence in the quality of education I would receive. Additionally, the admission team was quick, supportive, and flexible throughout my application process, making the experience smooth and welcoming. Moreover, Swansea is known for being a more affordable city compared to many others in the UK.
What is your favourite thing about your course?
It directly addresses the realities of armed conflict in my country as well as in many other conflict-affected nations. This focus allowed me to gain valuable insights and a deeper understanding of the historical, political, and social dynamics of war. I appreciated also the variety of modules offered and the way they were designed and taught, combining theory with practical perspectives.
What are you planning to do after you graduate?
I plan to put into practice the knowledge and experience I have gained by working closely with local leaders and communities to promote education and raise awareness. I aim to organize workshops between parents and students about child labour, children and women rights, and expand donation campaigns to support young victims of conflict in my country. In the long run, I aspire to influence provincial and national policies, engage with international bodies to fight human rights violations, and empower youth and women to become agents of positive change.
Would you recommend Swansea University to other students? Why?
Of course, and I have already started doing so. The quality of teaching, supportive staff, and welcoming environment make it an excellent choice.
Do you participate in a Swansea University sports team, club and/or society?
Yes, I had the opportunity to participate in some social activities, including football, crafting, watching movies, etc. Being involved allows me to meet new people, share experiences, and develop teamwork and leadership skills. It is also a great way to balance academic life with social interactions and stay connected to the community.
Have you accessed student support at Swansea University?
Yes, during my academic year, my country was plunged into armed conflict, and my hometown was taken over by rebels. This situation deeply affected my well-being, making it difficult to concentrate, as I was constantly worried about my family. After speaking with my tutor, I was introduced to one of the student support team, who provided regular guidance, moral support, and extenuating circumstances for my assignments. Their invaluable support truly helped me continue and succeed in my studies. I’m so grateful for that.
If relevant, what facilities have you enjoyed using as part of your course and why?
I have greatly enjoyed using the library facilities at Swansea University for its wide range of academic resources and a quiet environment for focused study. The loanable laptops was also a great support for me, as I didn’t own a personal PC. The online databases and e-books are very useful for my research and assignments. In addition, Taliesin was for me a great place to be. I enjoyed participating in activities they organised, playing Piano when relaxing, as well as socializing with colleagues.
Do you speak Welsh? If yes, have you studied in Welsh or engaged with any Welsh societies etc?
I don’t speak Welsh for now, although I am strongly interested in the language and its cultural significance. I plan to start learning it to enrich my experience of living in Wales and help me connect more deeply with the local community and heritage.
