What are your top 3 favourite things about Swansea (the city/area)?

  1. The Winds – There’s something uniquely refreshing about the breeze here, especially during early morning walks.
  2. The Beaches – Swansea's coastline is stunning. It’s the perfect escape when I need inspiration or relaxation.
  3. The People – Warm, welcoming, and always ready to help. It feels like a second home.

Why did you choose to study your degree at Swansea?

Swansea University stood out to me because of its excellent research reputation in Civil Engineering. The university offered the right balance of academic rigour and practical research opportunities, particularly in infrastructure and environmental sustainability, which aligns perfectly with my goals as a PhD researcher.

What is your favourite thing about your course?

The most exciting aspect of my PhD is contributing to original research. It’s incredibly rewarding to explore uncharted areas and tackle real-world engineering challenges with innovative thinking. The opportunity to add something entirely new to the body of knowledge is what motivates me every day.

What are you planning to do after you graduate?

As a lecturer back in Pakistan, my goal is to share the knowledge, values, and skills I acquire here at Swansea. I want to empower the youth, equip them with global perspectives, and help shape a generation that’s competitive, responsible, and dedicated to the development of Pakistan. My focus will be both academic and social, inspiring students to grow holistically.

Would you recommend Swansea University to other students? Why?

Absolutely! Swansea University offers a unique blend of academic excellence and student life. Whether you're into sports, books, or community events, there’s a space for everyone. The Get Active sessions are perfect for sports enthusiasts, while societies like the book club and cultural groups offer engaging ways to connect and grow. It’s truly a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive environment.

Have you lived in halls/student housing or at home during your studies?

I live in student accommodation near the city centre. It’s convenient and keeps me close to everything. For early risers, staying in the city is ideal—but if mornings aren’t your thing, campus accommodation might be the better choice!

Have you accessed student support at Swansea University?

Yes, I booked a career counselling session which was incredibly helpful in shaping my academic and professional direction. The staff were insightful and supportive.

What facilities have you enjoyed using as part of your course and why?

The advanced lab equipment and access to the university’s supercomputer have been invaluable. They’ve allowed me to run simulations and conduct experiments at a level I hadn’t experienced before.

Do you speak Welsh? If yes, have you studied in Welsh or engaged with any Welsh societies?

Not yet—but I’m planning to learn it. I believe language is a bridge to understanding culture, and I’d love to engage more with Welsh heritage.
