What is Clearing?

Clearing is your opportunity to secure a place at university outside of the main application cycle. There are many reasons that prospective students choose this route, for example:

  • You've changed your mind about the university at which you wish to study
  • You want to change to another course
  • You haven’t quite achieved the grades you were expecting
  • You have achieved better grades than expected
  • You haven't applied to go to university but you've decided that you want to go in September

Clearing opens on 2nd July 2026 and you’ll be eligible to apply if you are not holding any offers at that point. You can also apply if you do not hold a place after your exam results are published.

Whatever your situation, Clearing can be an opportunity to secure a university place that is just right for you! Your bright future starts at Swansea.

If you want to come to Swansea University but are already holding a place at another university, you can decline your place in your UCAS Hub and join the Clearing process.

This can depend on each institution but Clearing at Swansea can end as late as October, where programmes still have spaces.

If you didn't receive or accept any offers still contact your university of choice as some take late applicants.

If you are unsure contact Swansea University's Admissions Team to discuss your options.

Before calling the Clearing Hotline make sure you are prepared as you may be asked about your schoolwork or experience. Some advisors will make a decision based on your grades whilst others will ask questions to assess your interest in your chosen course.

It may be helpful to prepare some notes on why you want to join the university and what interests you in the course you are applying for.
